What ensure the safety o the skin care products that you may be using? You might think that the top brands offer quality products and won’t do any damage to the skin but the case is different. You might also think that the natural products are safer. But sometimes the natural ingredients such as lavender and other fragrance oils, ylang-ylang can cause irritation to the skin. So it is not about the brand name or quality it is about different skin types and ingredients. These irritants are found in most of the cosmetic products that you buy from the market because they have certain skin care ingredients that you must avoid. Some of these ingredients are-

  1. Mineral Oil/Petrolatum

This is generally found in the moisturizers and the cleansers. They tend to suffocate the skin making it duller with time. Also, in long run it can clog the pores, and trap the heat which in turn can lead to redness of the skin and breakouts.

  1. Sodium Laureth Sulfate/Sodium Lauryl Sulfate/ Ammonium Laureth Sulfate

These are most commonly found in the gel and foaming cleansers and they are responsible for drying of the skin and may also cause skin irritation. Further, they promote dead skin build up.

  1. SD Alcohol 40/Denatured Alcohol

These are commonly found in the skin toners and astringents. These ingredients lead to dead skin build up. Also they remove the water content from the skin making it dry, Also these ingredients have the ability to trap the oil in the skin making skin prone to breakouts.

  1. Fragrances

Different fragrances and perfumes that are found in cosmetic products are responsible for skin irritation.

  1. Isopropyl Myristate/ Isopropyl Palmitate

These are generally found in cleansers and moisturizers. They are responsible for the clogging of the skin that causes acne and black heads.

  1. Acetone

Acetone dries out the skin and hence can cause irritation. Acetone is generally found in toners and astringents.

  1. Lanolin

Lanolin is found in skin moisturizers and it can cause skin irritation and breakouts.

  1. Apricot Kernels

Apricot kernels are commonly found in the facial scrubs. They scratch on the skin and hence spread the bacteria causing skin problems like acne.

     9. Phthalates

These are found in the synthetic fragrances. Phthalates can cause hormonal imbalance in the skin.

So these were a few of the ingredients that are generally found in the cosmetic skin care products but they result in a lot of skin problems. So next time when you go shopping for skin care and other cosmetic products, make sure that you note down the ingredients as now you know which ones to avoid. So if you are suffering from breakouts, dry skin, irritation or any of the skin care problems, check for the ingredients in the products such as cleansers, toners etc that you may be using.
